In Circles Poem
From Todaycollegetour
- In Circles
In circles I run
In circles I hide
In circles, in circles, I play like a child.
Some circles are small
Some circles are wide
A circle's a circle no matter the size
In circles I'm trapped
My circles of pride
In circles, in circles, I travel inside
My circles run deep
My circles explain
My circles to my circles, again and again
One time I found a hole in the side
I wiggled through to the other side
No circles were there, or shapes to abide
But when I returned, my circles arrived
Try squares for a day or straight lines instead
These circles may drive me out of my head
Any shape is a shape, in the end you are there
Back at a beginning, called home if you care
In dreams or awake the shapes are the same
back and forth again and again
A leap to the left or sprint down the line
The circle's only different to an untrained eye
So take your pick, the circle, line or square
Any one will do to keep you here
But you and I know they're the same as the rest
And not till you are gone will I escape this pest
Why finish, why start, why pick up the pen?
The lines write themselves again and again
Like I think you will finish, if I try one more time
Will you be done when I stop counting mine?
I wonder if circles get smaller with time
Smaller and smaller till they are just dots (doesn't rhyme)
Then what's the difference? I'll wonder, I bet
A dot's just a circle without a hole in it
Dots and circles and squares and lines
In nursery school they seemed just fine
But now that I'm out, and a circle seems a line
I wonder if my teacher left a hole in my mind
My Dad paid the bill and my Mom drove the car
But somehow I missed a critical part
I'm pretty sure it started then
But when the hell does this circle end?
Don't get me wrong, they're fun for a time
As long as the circle occupies your mind
But when it gets slow, I feel like a mouse
Running in place, in a cage called my house
I once bought a cage, put a mouse inside
The thing ran around, had a hell of a time
I even joined in for a bit of the ride
Then I caught myself, from that I can't hide
Does the mouse know why?
He'll never confide
So he'll run his circles
and I'll run mine
I'd write some more, but its past time for bed
It's actually past then, but then each night’s the same
I told you already. Did you forget what I said?
Its a circle my friend. A circle I said.
